Old World vs New World

Our Old World vs New World tasting is all about learning and exploring wine regions throughout New (California) and Old World (Italy). During this event we will guide you through a side by side evaluation of two wines discussing terroir (the grape growing environment and its influence on the flavor of wine), vineyard growing techniques and vinification practices – all things that contribute to the wine’s style and characteristics.

This tasting is a study on Montepulciano a red grape grown primarily in Abruzzo region of Italy but rarely planted in California. Each tasting will include a generous pour of our Montepulciano (New World) and an Italian version of Montepulciano (Old World), a charcuterie board and plenty of time to discuss the wines and to learn about the differences between them.

***Please note – The tickets are non-refundable.  You can always transfer your reservation to another person.

Winemaker Dinner - Polenta alla Spianatora

You are invited to the Winemaker’s Dinner and to share in a family tradition of ‘Polenta on the Board’.  This is a traditional way to eat polenta in Northern Italy.  Known as polenta alla spiantora, it is usually served with forks but no plates, with guests gathered around the table for a very casual family style meal.  While we won’t be serving it on a communal board we promise it will still be a fun experience.  And we’ll be sharing our favorite wines.

Exploring Zinfandel

Three different Zinfandels.  Three different vineyards.

Join us as we explore the Zinfandels. During this event we will guide you through a tasting of our three Zinfandels.  We’ll discuss the terroir (the grape growing environment and its influence on the flavor of wine), vineyard growing techniques and vinification practices – all things that contribute to the wine’s style and characteristics.

Cucamonga Zinfandel is made as an “old school California” style Zinfandel meaning it is a lighter style with more finesse. We get bright fruits like cranberry and rhubarb with a wonderful savory, smokey component. Aged in oak for 14 months for added complexity and structure.

The 2020 Zinfandel comes from 4 Hearts vineyard in the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. The nose has classic Zinfandel aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry and blueberries. On the pallet, the acidity shines and helps to balance fruity notes, soft tannins and the rich textures of American oak.

Our second Paso Zinfandel also comes from the Willow Creek AVA of Paso Robles. Compared to our other Zinfandel wines, this is the most concentrated dark color Zinfandel yet, but still maintains a bright and lively acidity level. Aromatics are a mixture of bright and dark red fruits, cherry, dark strawberry and boysenberry with a touch of richness from American oak.

Each tasting will include a generous pour of our Zinfandels, small bites and plenty of time to discuss the wines and to learn about the differences between them.
